22 Jan 23 - The Antarctica Trip - King Penguin Fest, South Georgia

We had a wonderful seven hour landing at St Andrews Bay on our third morning in South Georgia. Even better, the weather and light were superb and the King Penguins were looking gorgeous. With one hundred and fifty thousand pairs of King Penguins on the beach to choose from, it would seem to be an impossible task to choose a favourite pair. But looking at the photos, this proved to be quite easy.
King Penguin pair: I'm assuming the male is on the right
King Penguin: He starts to call
King Penguin: His partner responds
King Penguin: Happy with his performance, he moved onto this rock
King Penguin: Like many stars, he decided his appearance needed a little bit of a touch up
King Penguin: Now it's time to pose for the camera
King Penguin: Even on tip toes, this watching King Penguin isn't as tall
Here's a short video from my mobile.
King Penguin: The Expedition staff team use these red flags to keep the passengers all following the same trail through the colony to minimise disturbance
King Penguin: We are meant to keep five metres from the Wildlife, but the King Penguins are inquisitive and they have no understanding of this rule
