20 Jan 23 - The Antarctica Trip - The King of Penguins

King Penguins are one of my favourite Birds, so this is the first of two Blog Posts from my Falklands, South Georgia & Antarctica trip focusing on King Penguins. The more you watch them in a colony, the more endearing them become. There is always a lot going on within a colony: enjoy.
King Penguin: The colonies are often on relatively small beaches between high peaks and glaciers, which just helps to emphasise the wildness of the area
King Penguin: A panoramic view of the Salisbury Plain beach
King Penguin: The colony stretches well onto the hillside behind this group
King Penguin: They are very inquisitive and keen to watch what is going on
King Penguin: This individual has seen something more interesting than me: hard though that is too believe
King Penguin: Youngsters starting to moult out of their juvenile feathering
King Penguin
King Penguin: Sometimes it's good to have a lie down
King Penguin: Close up, they are even more gorgeous
King Penguin: A few brown youngsters chilling with the adults
King Penguin: Where's Wally. This is just part of the lower section of the colony
King Penguin: There were a few scattered groups of three King Penguins. I think this was where a Male is getting interested in a Female in a newly established pair. After a while, the other Male would try to push the intruder away with slaps from its wings
King Penguin: It looks like this group are just standing around
King Penguin: There was always a lot more going on than you initially think: so, just keep watching
King Penguin: Heading in for a swim
King Penguin: With a few Antarctic Fur Seals on the beach
King Penguin: A final view of a fairly crowded beach
